Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
