Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important political figure commented the incident left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
